Highest, Lowest Price of Movie Tickets in 2012
A movie ticket in Tokyo Japan is $21.5, but the cheapest in the world is just $4.95.

The number one movie in the world, as predicted, is The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part Two. The last stretch of the popular vampire series snagged $340.9 million in its worldwide debut. Depending on one’s location, the price for seeing the movie in the big screen could be heavy or light.

 

While a small state in Asia sits atop the 10 most expensive cities to watch a movie, five cities are in Australia. The other four cities are in Europe.

 

Watching Bollywood movies is a bargain basement recreation. In the top 10 cheapest movie tickets, five are found in India. The cheapest is in Hyderabad. Seven are in Asia, two are in Europe and one in North America.

Any of the US cities did not fit on both lists; but since 1995, the ticket prices have risen steadily. The movie ticket price hit the all-time high in the second quarter of 2012, averaging at $8.12. The average price in 1995 was lower than the cheapest of today, $4.35.

 

Premium 3D theaters, higher cost of movie production and general inflation affected these prices. Do you think the price of movie tickets is justified?

    Sadly, family movies outing has been out of reach for us for a few years. For a family of five, it costs us $100 a pop easily. It’s absurd how much an actor/actress gets pay in millions in major films.

    Where I live, despite major financial crisis (or maybe because of the crisis…) ticket prices have gone down 13 cents…… Which really isn’t all that much…. PS: A ticket here is 5,5 euros…. (7,18 dollars)

    I think Indonesia should be top one 3.50 dollars for 2D and 5.00 for 3D

    My boyfriend’s hobby is watching films. Lucky for me he takes me with! If it weren’t for him, I couldn’t justify it. We do watch a lot on Netflix, though, and catch matinees when we can. We try to catch the ones at the theatre that we think will be best on the big screen.

    In Davao City, Philippines ~ our movie tickets cost 135 pesos or $3.31[I watched Breaking Dawn with this rate] (US) while in some other cities its 90 pesos or $2.21 (US).

    With kiddos, redbox and discount theatres are a blessing. Plus they learn the value of being able to wait and budgeting. :)

    I rarely go to the movies. Sometimes we take the kids to a special movie, but after tickets and snacks we end up spending more money than I believe the experience is worth. Family movie night is better at home than at the movie theater.

    I watched Prometheus in Penrith, AUS in, I think, August and the tickets cost us $27.5 each. * note that is not US dollars
    Though this Texas girl would die as the money passed hands! It’s a full on meal and movie with a few drinks to lull you to the end where I live. *sigh* Oh the cost of simple pleasures when I travel.

    I haven’t gone to a new movie in years. I don’t feel there is enough new ideas to justify paying that to see a movie. Reading a book is much more my speed. I can think of many better ways to spend my money.

    With the types of movies being made today (minus the ones brought out for the Academy Awards Races), I think they are highly overpriced. Maybe if the studios can make great movies all year round I will rethink my answer.
