PhotoLedger: Painting – Photograph
A painting looks like a photograph; a photograph looks like a painting.

I like paintings because it is the headline of art. It’s the prominent art form that I first think of when ‘art’ is brought up. It’s meticulous and expressionist.

I like photographs because they capture real life moments. They are testaments of how the world looked like.

I like it when painting and photographs cross boundaries, you don’t know which is which. It’s impressive to create one that rims in the slim distinction between painting and photograph.

This artwork is by Frans Lanting:

This artwork is by Alyssa Monks:

Alyssa Monks's painting called Stare, has a woman submerged in water that looks like a photo but is a painting

Whose work is painting? Whose work is photograph?

I thought they were both paintings but chose the second as the painting. However, I see that the first is the photograph. Interesting, though. Thanks for stopping by my post. Also, do you know how the first looks like a painting? What effects were used?

Hi, Lanting was interviewed in National Geographic. It’s captured at the perfect timing, and of course a few effects like two-stop graduated filter. I linked the interview if you want to read.

Thanks…That was a good article which really helped to explain the reason the photo looked more like a painting. After reading and seeing the photos, I can see now how that effect is possible.
