What If.. 80′s Prevail
What if we're still living the decade of 80's..

Now that’s fashionable. Great style, groovy artists, era of true icons, classic films and TV, and chilling activities. Plus, people are not yet slaves of technology.

In 80′s people saw the best of Smurfs, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and GI Joe (and fine, Hello Kitty too); heard the best of Madonna and Michael Jackson; and tasted the best of bubblegum flavors. How can we forget the roller skating fad and multi-colored slouch socks (like, really 80′s??). Those are good times.

What do you miss most about 80′s?

I was just telling a friend that the 80s seems like the last decade that had any personality.

  • http://gravatar.com/sheridegrom sheridegrom – From the literary and legislative trenches.

I don’t want to return to the 80′s but they were sweet indeed. What a fun post.

    I love the flashback

  • http://mariathermann.wordpress.com mariathermann

I miss not being in my 20s anymore…and that there none of these awful mobile phones around! How peaceful bus and train journeys were in comparison. Oh, yes, I miss Billy Idol, Ian Dury, Michael Jackson…and David Bowie most of all.

  • http://phdbutadhd.wordpress.com Phd But ADHD

I still think Billy Idol and The Cure rock… And a few others…maybe a little Brain Ferry, Avalon, Slave to Love? Same song different lyrics :-)

I miss being young. In the 80′s, I was in my 30′s. Trust me, that’s young, even if you think that’s old. Thanks for replying to my blog, joyat60. To tell you a secret, I’d be much more joyous if I could be in my 30′s again!

Just now selling my late 1970s-early 1980s Coach bucket bag. They just don’t make the like that anymore!

Each to their own…time wise that is. Recollection, reflection, all is part of evaluating where we are today. Thanks for reviewing our lessons on personal money management, that too by design is look at who we are today based upon decisions made in the past. It is said when, it stimulates thought, it motivates actions, your site does that in a fun way.

Those we’re the days ;) The Music I totally love, and still do, but those clothes? OMG…
No I’m glad we progressed :D

Very much impressed with the blog.

Hugs for you if you were born in the 80′s – Love It :)

  • Helen Long

I was more in the 70′s era but great blog! Thanks for liking my post! Many blessings to you!

  • http://zotale.wordpress.com rwgoldsmith

Makes me feel not so bad about the 60′s and 70′s. And it’s true. The music of the eighties was horrible. It took my daughter (since she recently became a teen) to convince me contemporary music was not dead.

  • http://2rainydaypeople.wordpress.com 2rainydaypeople

I have a photo like that, me and me friends. It seems we were “thirtyish” then. Now that I know we all SURVIVED it, … WHAT A HOOT!!!
I speak of that era of Woodstock, Watergate, Vietnam and its residue to my student peers, yep I still go to university. I’m one of them 40 year seniors.
    U B Well …

  • http://melmannphoto.wordpress.com melmannphoto

No, no. Please don’t bring that decade back. Haven’t we suffered enough already!! Still, not being a slave to technology might be worth the pain….

  • http://emails2mom.wordpress.com Gwen

Ouch! I remember the fun, new-wave/punk 80′s, not these guys. LOL!

  • http://creationsbycathy.wordpress.com creationsbycathy

Gonna have to say that the guy on the far right is my fav…! :)

  • http://darkofficehumour.wordpress.com Ankur Mithal

Yes there is nostalgia. Happy memories. Like it must have been for the 60s for people who were grown-up in the 80s. It is nice to hold on to happy memories.

  • http://www.grumpajoesplace.com Grumpa Joe

Somehow, I am glad I missed this group.

  • http://jcurtisblog.wordpress.com jackcurtis

Fad and Fashion: Evanescent surface reflections of that which runs deeper; in the present case, the ongoing deconstruction of western Judeo-Christian civilization..
Which leads me to see the 80′s as no more than an updated 60′s..

  • http://hirundine608.wordpress.com hirundine608

hahaha! I’ve noticed “Mad Ave’s recent pre-occupation with the extreme fashions of 1980′s. Yup. seventies is about done. Onto next gen. What are the iconic figures of nineties? Oh well plenty of stuff to be going on with? It appeals to those who view 1980′s with enough saccharine. The rest are deemed, little or no disposable income?

Sweet, What if earth …. is purgatory? rock on …. cheers!

  • http://gtcb.wordpress.com ballitoboy

I did the eighties in my twenties and I’m afraid I preferred the 70′s and the 90′s… then again, I might not have been sober enough to remember too much from the 80′s !

  • http://4livinglife.wordpress.com 4livinglife

Oh my, i couldn’t imagine! I was born in 83 so i was too young to remember the full forces of the 80′s but i think i would enjoy being trapped in the 90′s

  • http://frontrangescribbles.wordpress.com frontrangescribbles

Enjoyed the music from the 80′s. The fashions I’m glad have passed on

  • http://nativemichigander.com John

They were wonderful years indeed, just as were the seventies…

  • http://eideard.com eideard

The best “what if?” quote was from Ruud Gullett just before he lost his gig as manager at Fulham FC.

Reporters busting his chops with hypothetical questions, he finally stopped the interviews with: “What if? What if? What if? If my auntie had balls she’d be my uncle!”

  • http://chiefwritingwolf.wordpress.com Alejandro De La Garza

Aaaaah! The only thing I liked about that decade is the music. Everything else was crap!

  • http://qualiaforlife.wordpress.com Melissa

I absolutely LOVE the 80s… it’s like an obsession of mine… love the music, the not so mainstream technology, parenting style, the colors…love the whole package… hold the mullet… it’s probably due to the fact that it takes me back to my childhood in a nanosecond… thanks for stopping by on my blog… great blog!!… Cheers ;)

  • http://downhousesoftware.wordpress.com downhousesoftware

    Very nice. Is that Loverboy?

  • http://gravatar.com/canadiantravelbugs CanadianTravelBugs

I love the 80′s music and I feel about it the way my parents replayed and felt about their generation of music… now the fashion and big horn rimmed glasses and neon colours are trying to make a comeback and I shudder a bit….

  • http://foghornunicorn.wordpress.com FoghornUnicorn

I wish it would, so that I could wear roller skates EVERYWHERE! And also, I haven’t had the rainbow since the 80′s. I’m taking it back!!! EIGH-TIES! EIGH-TIES! EIGH-TIES!

  • http://53weeks.wordpress.com 53weeks

God help us if they do! It truely was the decade without taste.

  • http://costinirimia.wordpress.com Costin Irimia

    I fully agreed…

  • http://themofman.wordpress.com themofman

I can’t get past those shorts!

  • http://angusjet.wordpress.com Jane Grey

I was born in 86 and I love 80s music!

  • http://hanahorack.wordpress.com Hana Horack

Funny photo! OMG the 80′s, and in the 80′s we were nostalgic about the 60′s, or falling in love with Adam Ant, and siding with John MacEnroe at Wimbledon (how do you spell his name!).

But the 80′s were preparing the way for the 90′s…and all the things that we are bemoaning now, and every time is as ‘modern’ as it can be…don’t take me back, take me Beyond, and not just, “One step beyond”!

  • ocnlvr83

Considering I was six when the 80s ended, I don’t remember much. I remember the hideous sequined dresses and sweaters, and the shoulder pads. But the music and TV shows were pretty terrific. By today’s standards, the TV shows are laughable, but they’re not violent.

  • http://feelingchipper.wordpress.com feelingchipper

I don’t know what to say I love the most. The whole package is pretty darn special. Thanks for stopping by my blog!

  • http://pagadan.wordpress.com Pagadan

I enjoyed your 80s photo! Thanks for sharing. And thanks for stopping by my writing blog.

  • http://thebumblefiles.wordpress.com thebumblefiles

I love 80′s music still! It always takes me back. It probably was a more simple time. Of course, you don’t know that when you’re going through it! I think we did improve on our fashion sense. I don’t miss 80′s hair! Thanks for liking my post. I’m enjoying your blog.

  • http://empoweredresults.wordpress.com Empowered Results

The 80′s rocked…no pun intended LOL!

  • http://jcurtisblog.wordpress.com jackcurtis

Fashion folks seem so imaginative and creative in their times, but seems to me, as history proceeds, they come to resemble recyclers…

  • http://andyknaster.com andyknaster

If I would have bought a company that made shoulder pads, rat-tail combs, and hairspray, I’d be richer than Mark Zuckerberg and Bill Gates combined.

  • http://sayshaze.wordpress.com sayshaze

ooohh..80′s! so much to love about that era esp. in music.

    Thanks for liking my post..=)

  • http://poetrytales.wordpress.com Ayoub Mzee

    It was a great year!

  • http://mylowpricenow.wordpress.com mylowprice

  • http://greatpoetrymhf.wordpress.com greatpoetrymhf

Great beats the present bagging pants trend.

    Reblogged this on Greatpoetrymhf’s Weblog.

  • http://adultsatires.wordpress.com adultsatires

    (Sighs….) Yeah, I sure do miss the 80′s…. :(

  • http://mylowpricenow.com MY LOW PRICE

Well I want say it was that long ago, you have to count from 1980 – 1989. The big hair is back, so feel proud and hold your head and big hair up high.

  • http://breakingtherubberband.wordpress.com readytochangenow

I am still in denial that the 80s were 30 years ago – I still have to remind myself to not make my hair big…

    Love it….:)

  • http://mylowpricenow.com MY LOW PRICE

I love that year everything about it, the clothing, the music, my little girlfriend and school. Looking back in the year books and saying was that me!. The best time ever, sneaking in to a USC dance on night. Thank you for bring it up, if ever a time machine is invented I’m going.

    • Justin G. Bautista

I would go with you in the time machine. I’d want to experience all those great things about 80′s!

    • http://mylowpricenow.com MY LOW PRICE

Yes the USC dance was wonderful, at that time it was a song out title: Call Me and some of the words to it said, hears my number and a Dime, call me. An I and my friends had went over this step a hundred times, we pulled out a Dime and handing it to the ladys we were dancing with. It was about five of us dancing side by side, if you could have seen the ladys face’s when we pulled that off. Wow great times.

  • unclerave

    Hilarious!

  • http://stephaniefitzpatrick.wordpress.com stephaniefitzpatrick

So great! Thanks for the memories!

  • http://jfilez.wordpress.com Just!ne

I love the 80s! I’m proud to have been born during an era where the fashion, music, and movies were so bitchn’! I wouldn’t be mad if 80s style made a comeback (sans the mullets and overuse of hairspray).

    • Justin G. Bautista

I also won’t mind if 80′s fashion revives. It’ll be fun!

  • http://honiebriggs.wordpress.com Honie Briggs

I had BiG hair and even bigger dreams when I charged into adulthood in the 80′s. I’m glad you enjoyed my post “Time To Flip The Scrip” at honiebriggs.com. I will “like totally” be touring around Moment Matters in the future.

  • http://hullcityengland.wordpress.com wheniwasalad

Mmmm the 80′s sort of when I finally had to grow up, well like I say sort of. 60′s – 70′s more my time but even so some great music around in the 80′s when you could still call music, music.

    • http://hugyourporcupine.wordpress.com hugyourporcupine

Loved those years. Flashback…High school, boys, the 80′s music…love it

    • Moment Matters

I wish I’ve grown up during the 80′s; life seems simple.

  • http://ecleticsee.wordpress.com beckycat2828

Love the 80′s! Yes, I agree, we weren’t slaves of technology. Good times…

  • http://tonyquarrington.wordpress.com A Golden Gate State of Mind

Not sure about the fashion and music, but I’d agree about (some of) the TV and movies!

Like tax, tipping is slowly becoming a necessity rather than voluntary.

There is a way for a guy who never played basketball to beat LeBron James.
